Summary

On a day that featured several long-track supercell thunderstorms farther north and east, storm initiation finally occurred in central Oklahoma at around sunset. The cloud heap shown in this scene developed from a horizontal convective roll ahead of a progressive, eastward moving dryline. This towering cumulus would ultimately develop into a highly electrified, tornado-producing supercell thunderstorm shortly after sunset. The storm would persist through the overnight as it propagated rapidly toward the north and east across the dry, early spring landscape of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri.
