Daytime highs in the 90s (or even 100s) are not uncommon in Norman in September; however, the 20 days with highs at or above 90 °F stand out as rather unusual for the month. Precipitation was similarly unusual with only about a half-inch of rainfall for the entire month versus the 3-4 inches that usually falls. Synoptically, the unusual warmth and dryness was caused by persistent high-pressure aloft.
