March 2020 - Trinity Rainbows (September 29, 2007)

Summary

Here is a double rainbow in view over the Trinity Site in New Mexico near Carrizozo Malpais. This day featured a cluster of high-based thunderstorms that overspread the White Sands Missile Range from higher terrain to the west to lower terrain to the east. Clear skies to the west behind the eastward moving high-based cluster provided very favorable lighting conditions for rainbows; hence, the double bow which is actually a feature of all rainbows although observed less often than single bows.
